Huskies to Host Elite Field at Northern Intercollegiate

The tournament will be held at Beverly Country Club in Chicago Sunday and Monday and will feature No. 1 Illinois in this year’s field

DeKALB – The Northern Illinois University Huskies will host the 2016 Northern Intercollegiate on October 9 and 10 at the Beverly Country Club in Chicago. NIU will seek to improve upon it's top-10 finish last weekend at the Marquette Intercollegiate. Live scoring for the event can be followed on BirdieFire.

The Huskies are coming off the most consistent three-day stretch of the season, shooting under 300 in each round for the first time this season. NIU shot an 882 (+42) for the weekend, including a season low 292 in rounds one and two.

Pierrick Fillon (Voreppe, France/Lycee Pierre Beghin) recorded the best finish of his career after shooting a final round 71 to push him into a tie for 25. For the weekend, Fillon shot a 215 (+5) with a first and second round of 72.

Salvador Rocha (Mexico City, Mexico/American School Foundation), Paul Schlimm (Shorewood, Ill./Saint Francis) and Charlie Cameron (Canberra, Australia/Tyler J.C.) all finished within the top-50.

Rocha shot a three-round season low 220 that landed him tied for 37. Schlimm and Cameron carded 223 and 226, respectively, that placed Schlimm in a tie for 43 and Cameron in a tie for 49.

This weekend, No. 1 ranked Illinois will be competing at the Northern Intercollegiate. A perennial powerhouse, Illinois has continued to dominate its competition this season, winning its first two tournaments that included the Wolf Run Intercollegiate where NIU also competed.

The 12-team field is composed of a slew of local teams including Western Illinois, Loyola-Chicago and Bradley. Additionally, previous opponents Indiana and Marquette will be competing.

The Beverly Country Club will host the Northern Intercollegiate for the first time this weekend due to NCAA rules that permit Rich Harvest Farms, the host of the 2017 NCAA Championship, from hosting an event in the same competition year.

Established in 1908, the Beverly Country Club has been a mainstay in Chicagoland for years. Beverly has hosted four Western Open Championships with legends such as the late-great Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Chick Evans hoisting the championship trophy.

The course was most recently renovated in 2002 by Ron Prichard and was named as one of Golfweek's Top 100 Classic Golf Courses in the United States in 2005. Its many bunkers and large trees characterize the course.
