Cleveland – The Mid-American Conference named Northern Illinois University senior
Hope Schmelzle (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) as the Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

The weekly award goes to an athlete who performed exceptionally during the previous week of competition. It is, then, voted on by the head coaches of the conference.

Schmelzle earned the award after her performance at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday. For the second consecutive weekend, she improved a school record that she already owned. This week, her mile time was set at 4:39.82.

She also holds the 800-meter school record that she recorded the previous week at the GVSU Big Meet setting the record at 2:08.67.

Schmelzle and the rest of the Huskie team will compete this weekend at the Indoor MAC Championships on Friday and Saturday.
