DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's golf team opens play in the GCU Invitational on Friday, March 17 as they compete versus 13 other teams for the title at the GCU Championship Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 14 teams will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 on Saturday at the par 71 track. The Huskies' starting five includes senior
Charlie Cameron (Canberra, Australia), sophomores
Thomas DeMarco (LaSalle, Ontario, Canada),
Salvador Rocha (Mexico City, Mexico) and
Matt Cholod (Courtice, Ontario, Canada), and freshman
Jordan Less (Elmhurst, Ill./York HS).
The tournament is just NIU's second outing of the spring season after placing fourth in a 16-team field at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz. In February. Cameron paced the Huskies in that event with a career-best score of 211 (-5) for his first career Top 10 finish, while Less and DeMarco also recorded Top 25 finishes in 16
th and 23
rd, respectively.
The Huskies will take on a national field at the GCU Invitational. The Huskies are paired with Utah Valley, Columbia and Southern Utah for the first 36 holes. The rest of the field includes Duke, Eastern Michigan, Wichita State, Indiana, Loyola Marymount, Missouri-Kansas City, South Dakota, Omaha and CSU-Bakersfield.
