NIU Returns to the Links for Boilermaker Invitational

Two tournaments remain in the Huskies regular season

DeKALB – The NIU men's golf team will compete in its 10th straight Boilermaker Invitational at the Kampen Course on April 15-16 after placing a season best second place at the Tiger Invitational last week. The tournament will be played at 7,465 yards and with a par of 72.

The Huskies finished 16 strokes ahead of third place Austin Peay at The Club at Old Hawthorne after carding a final round 286 (-2). The entire five-man team finished in the top-25 for the first time under Tom Porten.

Jordan Less led the Huskies, placing ninth after shooting a final round 70 (-2). He finished with a final tally of 217 (+1) and recorded his best finish as a Huskie to earn Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week.

Salvador Rocha finished one stroke behind Less that put him in sole possession of 11th place. He shot a team best 68 (-4) in the second round that propelled him to his best finish at NIU.

Charlie Cameron finished tied for 15th. Cameron recorded a three round score of 222 (+6) with a final round 73 (+1). Thomas DeMarco tied for 18th after shooting a final round 73 (+1), highlighted by three birdies. Matt Cholod had his best finish as a Huskie, placing tied for 21st with a final round 71 (-1).

The 15-team field for the 14th Annual Boilermaker Invitational features MAC rivals No. 11 Kent State, Toledo and Miami (Ohio), No. 17 UNLV, No. 34 Northwestern, and No. 35 Purdue.

Designed by Pete Dye, The Kampen Course has hosted tournaments such as the 2008 NCAA Men's Championship, the 2011 Big Ten Men's Championship, as well as the 2017 NCAA Regional.

The links-style course features large sand traps, native grasses, and several water hazards. It was awarded 4.5 stars on Golf Digest's "Places to Play" and is renowned as one of the top collegiate courses in the nation.

The 54-hole event will begin at 7:45 a.m., Central Saturday with a shotgun start. Huskie fans can follow live scoring on BirdieFire.

Northern Illinois University will close its regular season at the Robert Keppler Classic on Ohio State's Scarlet Course April 22-23 in Columbus, Ohio.
