DeKALB - The NIU men's golf team will head to Columbia, Mo., to compete in the Mizzou Intercollegiate April 10 and 11, two weeks after placing fifth at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational. The Club at Old Hawthorne, playing at par 72 and 7,221-yards, will host the 18-team field.
A strong final day propelled the Huskies to their fifth-place finish led by
Charlie Cameron. As a team the Huskies shot a combined 285 (-3) that pushed them from eighth to fifth in the overall standings. Cameron carded a final round 69 (-3) that put him in a tie for eighth, the best finish of his NIU career.
Thomas DeMarco and
Jordan Less finished 17th and tied for 24th, respectively. DeMarco finished his final round with five birdies and shot an even par 72 to secure his 17th place finish. Less shot a final round 74 that allowed him to finish inside the top-25.
Salvador Rocha finished strong with a final round of 70 (-2) after shooting consecutive 79's in the first two rounds. His final round elevated him 20 spots in the final rankings where he finished in a tie for 36th overall.
The Club at Old Hawthorne was established in 2007 and has been partnered with the University of Missouri Golf Program since 2006. The Club was the site of the 2014 NCAA Columbia Regional.
The par 72 course was designed by Art Schaupeter. It features rolling terrain, rippling greens, multiple water hazards, wide fairways, and strategically placed bunkers for a challenging and enjoyable course.Â
The Huskies last played the course April 9-10, 2012 at the Cog Mizzou Intercollegiate. Led by Kurtis Luedtke's eighth-place finish, NIU tied for fourth in the tournament.Â
Fans can follow the tournament via live stats on Golf Stat. The tournament will be the first of four-straight weekends of competition for Northern Illinois University, capped by the Mid-American Conference Championship April 28-30.Â
