Women's Gymnastics | April 10
CLEVELAND – Seven Northern Illinois University gymnasts were announced, on Tuesday, to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.
The award goes to student athletes who have accumulated a grade point average of 3.200 or higher, competed in more than half of the season's competitions and finished a full calendar year at the institution. Freshman and junior transfers are not eligible for the award.
This year's honorees from NIU include seniors
Katherine Prentice (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and
Aubrie Purtell (Huntley, Ill./Huntley), juniors
Anna Martucci (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) and
Paige Nicholas (Columbus, Ohio/) and sophomores
Amanda Bartemio (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata),
Cinny Lamberti (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake) and
Allison Richardson (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville).
The list was released just days after Prentice and Martucci returned from the NCAA Regional to cap off two of the best seasons for the pair. Prentice set career-highs on uneven parallel bars with a 9.900 (March 4), on beam with a 9.925 at Bowling Green (March 17) and all-around with a 39.300 at the MAC Championships (March 24). Meanwhile, Martucci led the Huskies on floor with six score of 9.900 or higher and the highest score by an individual since 1995 with a 9.975 on the event against Western Michigan (March 4).
Purtell earned a spot on the starting lineup during her senior season, marking her career high at the MAC Championships.
Richardson impressed with one of only two gymnasts with a 4.000 grade point average and will return next season, along with Martucci, Nicholas, Bartemio and Lamberti for another memorable season of NIU gymnastics in 2019.
The Huskies joined 54 gymnasts on the list of honorees this year:
