DEKALB, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team, the lone unbeaten in the Mid-American Conference West Division, plays host to Central Michigan on Tuesday night, January 15, at 7 p.m., at the NIU Convocation Center.

NIU heads into Tuesday night with a 10-6 overall record, including a 3-0 mark in conference play, following a 73-56 win over Akron this past Saturday (Jan. 12).
The Huskies overturned a 12-point first half deficit against the Zips as they outscored Akron, 48-22, in the second half. NIU shot 70 percent (21-of-30) from the field in the second half while holding Akron to just 20 percent (5-of-25) shooting.
Through three games of league play, NIU currently leads the MAC in scoring defense (64.0), free throw percentage (76.7 percent), field goal percentage (51.2 percent) and three-point defense (26.8 percent) in conference games.
NIU has also returned to the top-10 nationally in field goal percentage as the Huskies are currently seventh, shooting 50.6 percent as a team from the field. Senior
Dante Thorpe (Washington, D.C./Triton College) is currently 55th in the national rankings, shooting 55.8 percent from the floor, the seventh-best mark among guards in the country.

Eugene German (Gary, Ind./21st Century Charter) was named Co-MAC West Division Player of the Week earlier today after averaging 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in wins last week against Miami and Akron. German currently leads the MAC in scoring, and ranks 23rd nationally, at 21.1 points per game.
The Chippewas come to DeKalb with a 13-3 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in MAC play. CMU suffered its first home loss of the season last time out, a 97-87 overtime setback against Bowling Green (Jan. 12). Central Michigan has five players scoring in double figures, led by 18.7 points per game from Larry Austin. Shawn Roundtree averages 15.7 points, Kevin McKay adds 13.0 points, David DiLeo chips in 11.4 points and Rob Montgomery is scoring 10.1 points per contest for the Chippewas, who lead the MAC in scoring at 87.7 points per game.
Following Tuesday's home contest, the Huskies will return to the road as they visit Kent State on Saturday, January 19. Tipoff against the Golden Flashes is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
