DEKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Myia Starks of women's basketball and Gage Braun of wrestling.

These Huskies have been nominated for the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week awards, which are announced on Wednesdays during the academic year.

Week's Achievements: Gage Braun went 2-1 on the first day of the 2019 Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on Dec. 29. After receiving a first-round bye, Braun defeated Northern Iowa's Tyrell Gordon 8-6. He followed that up with a 7-3 win over Hunter Ritter of Minnesota. Braun is in action in the consolation round Monday.	Week's Achievements: Myia Starks led NIU in scoring for the second straight game on Dec. 29 with nine points against Drake. She also tied a career-high with six steals.
