DEKALB, Ill. - Each week, NIU honors two student-athletes that exemplify the concept of the "student-athlete" supremely well. These students excel both in the classroom and on the playing field. This week, the honorees are Mercer Mack of track and field and Kam Smith of baseball.

These Huskies have been nominated for the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week awards, which are announced on Wednesdays during the academic year.

Week's Achievements: Kam Smith had four hits in three games against Ball State last weekend. The redshirt-sophomore designated hitter had two hits last Friday against the Cardinals. In NIU's 7-5 win on Sunday, Smith was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Smith was 4-for-10 on the weekend with two walks and a stolen base.	Week's Achievements: Mercer Mack won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to conclude the regular season at the NIU Huskie Classic last Friday (May 3), winning with a season-best time of 11:14.25. Mack's time ranks as the 14th-fastest in the MAC this season in the steeplechase.
