DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team returns to the NIU Convocation Center and to Mid-American Conference competition on Sunday, February 2 at 1 p.m. as they take on Central Michigan in the team's annual "Pink Meet" in honor of cancer awareness.
Admission to the meet is free and the meet will be
broadcast on ESPN3 with
live scoring updates here.
The Huskies (1-2 overall, 1-1 MAC) are coming off their top score of the season last week at Illinois State where they posted a 193.400 in a loss at Illinois State. NIU earned its highest team scores of the season on vault and floor exercise in the meet, and NIU gymnasts took first place honors on every event.
"Our goal this week is to build off of last weekend," said NIU head coach
Sam Morreale. "We want to take what we did well and continue to do that and fill in the holes. We're ready to have a great meet. CMU is the MAC preseason favorite, but we're going to do us, focus on what we do."
Again this week, the Huskies are dealing with injuries that could affect the line-up with some determinations not made until meet day. Seniors
Cinny Lamberti (vault) and
Amanda Bartemio (vault and floor) returned to full action last week after missing time early in the season.
Morreale said the team is not using injuries as an excuse and their goals and expectations remain constant.
Following Sunday's meet, the Huskies will next be in action on Friday, February 7 when they travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan for a dual meet at Eastern Michigan at 5 p.m. (CT).
