DeKALB, Ill. – With Northern Illinois University basketball games still being played in empty arenas with no fans permitted entering 2021, NIU Athletics is inviting Huskie fans to help create a great game-day atmosphere inside the Convocation Center for the NIU men's and women's basketball teams.
Huskie fans are invited to record and submit videos up to 30 seconds long which will be played on the NIU Convocation Center video boards during games. In addition, videos may be featured on the ESPN3/ESPN+ broadcasts of NIU men's and women's basketball games, and on the NIU Athletics and NIU men's and women's basketball social media platforms.
Huskie student-athletes can see the fans in the stands thanks to the Huskie Howl Fan Cutout program, and by sending in your videos of cheering, yelling, chanting and generally getting fired up about Huskie Basketball, the teams will now be able to hear the fans too. It's an easy – and free – way to show your support – virtually.
Also, NIU Athletics wants to hear, literally, from the talented singers and musicians out there as the Huskies are also accepting national anthem videos that will be played in the Convo prior to games this year. Instrumental submissions will be considered, but preference will be given to those that are sung.
Suggestions for your video content include:
- Doing N-I-U chants or yelling "Go Huskies!"
- Generally cheering, clapping, going wild and being excited for the Huskies!
- Reacting as if NIU just made a big play. Anticipate it for a few seconds and then celebrate!
Tips on how to record video:
- Record your video horizontally and from the waist up, looking directly at the camera.
- Please avoid paintings, posters or other art in the background.
- Make sure filming location has enough light so you can be seen properly.
- Be mindful of the background; try to avoid windows or other bright spots behind you.
- Try to choose a quiet place with no music, TV or other background audio.
- Wear Huskie gear!
Please limit all Fan Cam videos to 30 seconds or less, while National Anthem videos should be no longer than 90 seconds.
How to Submit Videos to NIU Athletics:
- Videos may be submitted by utilizing the WeTransfer website.
- Use sportsmarketing@niu.edu for the "Email to" destination
- Please describe your video in the "Message" box, beginning with its type (Fan Cam or National Anthem)
- Be sure to provide your name and, if possible, your affiliation with NIU (student, alumnus, community or family member)
