Women's Basketball Adds Nia Ahart For 2021-22 Season

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team announced on Monday the addition of Nia Ahart to the roster for the 2021-22 season. Ahart comes to NIU as a graduate transfer from Colgate University and will have one year of eligibility.

"Nia is going to be an outstanding addition to this veteran team," said head coach Lisa Carlsen. "She brings depth to our backcourt as a scorer and a solid defender."

Ahart, a 5'7" guard from Detroit, played in 84 games during her career at Colgate. She averaged 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in her career as a Raider. Ahart had a 2.31 assist-to-turnover ratio in the 2019-20 season as Colgate improved by seven wins from the year prior to post a record of 19-11. As a sophomore, Ahart led Colgate in minutes at 27.1 per game while shooting 35.7 percent from the three-point arc. Off the court, Ahart was twice named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

A three-year captain at University Liggett School in Detroit, Ahart scored over 1,200 points in her prep career. She helped the Knights to one state final four appearance to go with three conference titles, three district titles and two regional championships. Ahart averaged 31.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.1 steals per game as a senior and was named All-State by the Associated Press.

Ahart is the third newcomer to join the NIU women's basketball team for the upcoming 2021-22 season, joining guard Moriah Prewitt (Urbandale, Iowa/Des Moines Christian School) and forward Laura Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall HS).
