CLEVELAND -- Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann, Jamaica/Southern-New Orleans) of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (March 30) following her performance at Texas State's Bobcat Invitational. Campbell recorded a top-five finish in both the 200 and 400 meters.
The reigning MAC Indoor champion in the 400-meter dash, Campbell finished third in the outdoor 400 at Texas State with a time of 54.53 seconds, behind only Bianca Stubler of Wisconsin (53.42) and Iowa State's Bria Barnes (54.40). Campbell's time is the fastest in the MAC by a full second and ranks in the top-40 nationally.
Campbell was fourth in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 24.23 seconds, just over a quarter-second off the winning time of unattached competitor Melissa Gonzalez (23.97). The St. Ann, Jamaica native's time leads the MAC this season and is in the top 125 in the country.
This is the third MAC weekly honor of the season for Campbell, her first during the outdoor season. She earned MAC Track Athlete of the Week honors during the indoor season on both Dec. 15 and Jan. 19.
NIU will be back in action this Saturday, April 2, when the Huskies travel to Normal, Ill., for the Redbird Invite.
