Women's Track and Field | May 26

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Northern Illinois University women's track and field team had three student-athletes compete in the NCAA West Preliminary at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas Thursday night.

On the track, sophomore Skylynn Blue (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was 31st overall in the 200 meters with a time of 23.71. It was the Mid-American Conference champion's third-fastest time of the season. Scout Regular (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) was seventh in her heat of the 100 meter hurdles, and 44th overall, with a time of 13.96 seconds. That marked the fourth time this season Regular posted a time under 14 seconds in the event this season. Blue's and Regular's times were not fast enough to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

Senior Jazmyn Smith (Pinecrest, Fla./Pinecrest), NIU's program record-holder in the long jump, placed 31st with a leap of 5.95 meters.

"The evening didn't go the way we wanted it to with the athletes we had competing, but that does not take away for the effort they put forth," said Director of Track and Field Connie Teaberry. "I'm extremely proud of them and the season they had to get them to the NCAA preliminary. I am looking forward to seeing what their athletic futures hold."

Two more Huskies will be in action Saturday night (May 28) as seniors Diamond Riley (St. Louis, Mo./Ritenour) and Katrina Small (Atlanta, Ga./The St. Michael School) compete in the triple jump at 6 p.m. CT.
