DeKALB, IL – Northern Illinois University men's golf head coach
John Carlson announced on Thursday the addition of Rachel Gray as a volunteer assistant coach.
"We're fortunate to hire Rachel as our volunteer assistant coach," said Carlson. "Her head coaching experience combined with her background in communications will be invaluable to the NIU Men's Golf program."
Gray comes to DeKalb after three seasons as both the men's and women's head golf coach at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. In her first season with the Saints in 2019, Gray led the women's team to its fourth straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship and a tournament scoring record. Under her guidance Hannah Johnson was the UMAC Player of the Year that year as well as the tournament's individual champion. She coached the men's team to a second-place finish that year as well.
Gray started her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Lenoir-Rhyne in 2016 where she helped coach the women's team to its first South Atlantic Conference championship in 13 years. From there Gray went on to coach at Lincoln Memorial.
A native of Coon Rapids, Minn., Gray played collegiately at Concordia-St. Paul from 2012 to 2016. She was a three-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference selection and twice was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. Gray earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Concordia and an MBA in Leadership with a focus in college coaching from St. Scholastica.
