INDEPENDENCE, Minn. - The Northern Illinois University men's golf team opened its 2025-26 season at the Gopher Invitational, hosted by Minnesota at Windsong Farm Golf Club. The Huskies finished in 15th place at 44-over par.

"The start of 2025 mirrored our experience in 2024 at Windsong Farm," said head coach John Carlson. "The demanding championship layout tested our young team and we struggled to find consistency off the tee throughout the week."

Sophomore Beau Petersen (Gretna, Neb./Gretna) was the Huskies' top finisher, finishing tied for 45th with a 54-hole score of eight-over par 211. Petersen posted an opening round 75 Sunday morning, following that up with an even par round of 71 in the afternoon. He played his final nine holes in the second round at two-under par to post NIU's lowest round of the tournament. Petersen moved up 22 spots on the leaderboard to tie for 34th entering Monday's final round. The sophomore carded a 75 on Monday.

NIU posted its lowest team score in the second round with a 10-over par 294. Junior Craig Long (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) bounced back from an opening round 80 to card a two-over 73 with four birdies. Jack Mulligan (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had a 74 as Patrick Raupp (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) and freshman Corentin Guilloux (Longages, France) both had rounds of 76.

Long had the Huskies' low score in Monday's final round with a two-over 73. He finished tied for 65th at +13, playing the final 36 holes at four-over par. Guilloux matched Petersen with a round of 75 and also tied for 65th, counting in NIU's scoring group in all three rounds in his Huskie debut.

"Looking ahead, we plan to make some adjustments to our lineup for the Badger Invitational in two weeks with the goal of addressing our driving challenges," Carlson said.

The Huskies had two golfers compete as individuals at the Minnesota Golf Classic, hosted by Bethel University at Pioneer Creek Golf Course. Conner McCall (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia Community) tied for 12th with a 54-hole score of one-over par 21. McCall had a career-low round of 70 in the second round. Devin Swoyer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) tied for 33rd at seven-over par.

NIU is next in action Sept. 22-23 at Wisconsin's Badger Invitational at TPC Wisconsin in Madison.
