Men's Golf | September 14
DeKALB, IL – Sophomore
Ben Sluzas (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) of the Northern Illinois University men's golf team was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after tying for first place at the Badger Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday.
This is Sluzas' first career MAC weekly honor. In a field that included five teams ranked in the top-50 of the preseason GolfWeek rankings and the reigning US Amateur champion, Sluzas carded rounds of 69 and 66 to finish at nine-under par. Sluzas' 66 on Tuesday was a career-best for the Huskie and had no bogeys.
The sophomore Huskie had 11 birdies to just two bogeys for the tournament. Sluzas held the lead in the clubhouse before Texas A&M's William Paysse birdied his final hole to tie for the top spot. It was Sluzas' first collegiate individual victory.
NIU is next in action Sept. 23-24 at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by New Mexico.
