The Northern Illinois University Gymnastics team will hold its annual Red/Black Meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 17 at Victor E. Court in the NIU Convocation Center. The Red/Black meet is the team's annual intrasquad exhibition meet as the team will be divided into a Red team and a Black team.
The Meet is open to the public and admission is free. Â
"I am super excited for the Red/Black competition," said NIU head coach
Sam Morreale. "The ladies have been working really hard and they are excited to get in front of our fans and show that work off."
Each team will have five competitors on vault and six on bars, beam and floor.
Senior
Alyssa Al-Ashari and junior
Emmalise Nock return to lead the Huskies after qualifying for the NCAA Regionals in 2023. Al-Ashari qualified in the beams and bars and Nock competed on the floor.
"This group has been really dialed in this year and I am looking forward to seeing where we stand less than two months out from the season," Morreale said. "Our depth is really good this year as is this team's skill level. Come on out and help cheer us on. You will not be disappointed!"
Morreale and the Huskies have added seven freshmen to the 2024 team.
A NIU alumnus, Morreale enters his 13
th year as the head coach of Huskie Gymnastics and has helped lead the team to podium finishes at the MAC championships in four of the last five seasons.
The Huskies will officially open the 2024 regular season on January 6 when they travel to Columbia, Missouri to compete in the Missouri Quad Meet.
