CLEVELAND—Tommy Curran (Carol Stream, Ill/DeKalb) of the Northern Illinois Wrestling program was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (Nov. 21).
Curran went 2-0 at the Boilermaker Duals, hosted by Purdue on Nov. 19. The redshirt-freshman opened his day, pinning Jackson Hoover over UIndy with a fall time of 2:39. Curran's win by fall was his second win by fall this season.
Curran battled with Purdue's Marcos Polanco to a 10-8 decision victory as he was one of three Huskies to go 2-0 on the day.
"There are a lot of great things happening on a team and individual level throughout the MAC," said NIU head coach
Ryan Ludwig. "Having Tommy bring home this honor is high praise. We are proud of the way he represents the program."
Curran is 4-0 in dual competitions this season with a 5-2 overall record.
This is the first honor of the season for the Huskie wrestling program and Curran's first honor.
The Huskies return to the mat on Dec. 2 at the Cougar Clash, hosted by SIUE. Action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. CT.
