DeKALB, IL – Northern Illinois University men's golf head coach John Carlson announced on Thursday morning the signings of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to join the Huskies for the 2024-25 season.
"This is the deepest class of talent, by the national rankings, that we have signed at NIU Golf," said head coach John Carlson. "Their resumes are filled with wins at the junior, high school and amateur levels. All four signees also rank highly academically within in their high school graduating classes."
Conner McCall just wrapped up his senior season at Vandalia Community High School in Vandalia, Ill. He is the sixth-ranked golfer in Illinois by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and 11th in Illinois by Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS). McCall won the South Central Conference individual championship and led the Vandals to the team title. He qualified for the IHSA Class 1A state championship and finished fifth with a 36-hole score of 148. A four-time, first team all-conference selection, McCall has been named All-State in Illinois twice.
Carlson on McCall: "Conner is a complete player with no weaknesses. He wins golf tournaments and that ability goes a long way."
Jack Mulligan completed his senior season at Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Ill. this fall. He is the top-ranked golfer of the Illinois class of 2024 by the AJGA and number three by Junior Golf Scoreboard. Mulligan is ranked #297 nationally by JGS. He has been a key player in the Red Devils' three consecutive West Suburban Silver conference championships.
Carlson on Mulligan: "Jack has a championship resume competing for an elite high school program at Hinsdale Central. He competed in the strongest fields in junior golf this past summer in the USGA Junior Amateur and the Junior PGA Championship."
Beau Petersen is a senior at Gretna High School in Gretna, Neb. He is the second-ranked golfer in Nebraska by the AJGA and number three by JGS. A three-year letterwinner, Petersen medaled in all 12 tournaments played last spring as a junior. Petersen is ranked #391 nationally by JGS.
Carlson on Petersen: "Beau is a leader and highly recruited by many top collegiate golf programs. He had one of the best competitive summers of any signee in NIU Golf history last summer, winning the Nebraska State Junior Championship and competing in the USGA Junior Amateur."
Patrick Raupp just finished his senior season at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, Ill. He is the seventh-ranked golfer in Illinois by both the AJGA and JGS. A four-year letterwinner, Raupp led the Knights to a third-place finish at this fall's IHSA Class 3A state championship. Raupp tied for sixth individually with a 36-hole score of 149. Prospect won both its regional and sectional along with a Mid-Suburban League title. Raupp has finished in the top-10 at the state tournament in each of the last three years. A three-time All-MSL selection, Raupp has been named All-State twice.
Carlson on Raupp: "Patrick has prodigious ball speed. He has a maturity that will integrate into our program immediately."
NIU opens the spring portion of its 2023-24 season at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational Feb. 26-28.
