MADISON, Wis. – In the final regular season meet of the indoor season, the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team claimed three event victories at the Badger Invitational on Friday (Feb. 17).
Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann, Jamaica) won the 200 meters,
Christine Irving (St. James, Jamaica) took the title in the 400 meters and
Scout Regular (St. Louis, Mo.) claimed top honors in the 60-meter hurdles.
"The Huskies had another productive track weekend," said NIU Director of Track and Field
Connie Teaberry. "The week before conference (championship), the staff saw exactly what we needed to know the athletes are mentally and physically ready for the MAC Championships next week. Even though there were not a lot of teams present, they competed with purpose.
"Several moved up on the conference list and have inked a spot to travel (to the conference meet). Others improved, but we will have to wait for scratches to know their conference fate. No complaints, good or bad times or marks, they definitely left everything on the track."
In the 200, Campbell claimed her second meet win of the season, running a time of 24.78 seconds, converted to the third-fastest time in the Mid-American Conference this season.
Malia Watkins (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was second in 25.11 seconds, ninth-best in the conference this year.
Jahnetta Jones (Romeoville, Ill.) was the third Huskie to earn a top-five, taking fifth in 25.50 seconds, also a top-20 conference time.
NIU claimed the top-three spots in the 400-meter dash, led by Irving's winning time of 58.22 seconds.
Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J.) finished second in 58.47 seconds, both Irving and Rowe's times are in the top-20 in the MAC.
Talayssia Sanders (Waco, Texas) completed the Huskie sweep of the top-three with a time of 59.37 seconds to take third.
Regular won her third 60-meter hurdle crown of the season, posting a time of 8.59 seconds, to finish ahead of Wisconsin's Mackenzie Heyroth (8.64). NIU's
Aquilla St. Louis (D'Abadie, Trinidad & Tobago) was third, clocking in with a time of 8.87 seconds.
The Huskies had a trio of runner-up finishes in field events. In the long jump,
Diamond Riley (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded the 12th-best mark in the MAC this season with a jump that measured 5.62 meters (18-05.25) on her fifth attempt of the competition.
Dymier Jeffery (Richmond, Va.) cleared 1.65 meters (5-05.00) in the high jump on her second attempt at the height. In the triple jump,
Kendal Only (Huntley, Ill.) measured 11.38 meters (37-04.00) on her sixth, and final, jump of the day.
NIU will next head to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the MAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
