AZUZA, Calif. – Scout Regular (St. Louis, Mo.),
Diamond Riley (St. Louis, Mo.) and the 4x100-meter relay team each recorded top-five finishes as the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Riley finished third in the triple jump, Regular claimed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles while the Huskie relay quartet finished second in the 4x100 meters.
"Another productive weekend of Track and Field," said NIU Director of Track and Field
Connie Teaberry. "The athletes are still getting their timing and technique down since we have had limited outdoor practice days, but their competitive drive was still present throughout.
"A couple of standout performers that continue to lower their times and marks were
Emma Planck in the 800 and 1500 meters. She's a strong competitor and mentally tough. With these two characteristics she will continue to shave time off.
Kennedy Crawford had two personal bests this weekend. The first in the 800, dropping another second. The second was in the 400 topping her time from her freshman year. She has really begun to make the 800 meters her signature event. We know she has more time she can drop. Her hard work will, and has, paid off.
"In the field we had a couple athletes improve.
Diamond Riley was the standout moving up significantly in the MAC standings in the triple and long jump. We will keep pushing toward flawless technical performances."
Riley recorded a season-best mark of 12.62 meters (41-5.00) with her first attempt of the competition to take third overall, second among collegiate competitors. Her mark was also the second-best in the Mid-American Conference this spring.
In the hurdles, Regular ran a time of 13.79 seconds, just one one-hundredth of a second off her season-best, to earn a fifth-place finish. Regular finished fourth in the fastest heat, just five one-hundredths of a second behind second place overall, to claim fifth in the 68-runner field in the 100 hurdles.
Kimone Hines (Hanover, Jamaica),
Skylynn Blue (Indianapolis, Ind.), Regular and
Suerethia Henderson (Lima, Ohio) combined to run 45.61 seconds, the second-fastest time in the MAC this season, in the 4x100-meter relay. San Jose State won the relay in 45.48 seconds to top the 19-team field.
Blue earned a top-20 finish in the 200 meters, running 24.08 seconds, just six one-hundredths off her season-best, claiming 19th among the 88 competitors in the event.
Emma Planck (Downington, Pa.) ran 2:19.45 in the 800, nearly three seconds ahead of her previous season's best, and ran 4:43.91 in the 1,500.
Kennedy Crawford (Douglasville, Ga.) ran 56.28 in the 400 and 2:15.17 in the 800.
Next week the Huskies will send athletes to both the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas, and the Gary Wieneke Memorial in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22.
