Huskies Ranked Eighth As A Team On WCGA Scholastic All-American List
DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team once again has been recognized as a leader in the academic rankings by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
NIU ranked eighth in the nation with a cumulative team GPA of 3.7552, which put them just .0006 behind Western Michigan for the top spot in the Mid-American Conference. The Huskies ranked among the Top 10 academic teams in the nation for the fifth consecutive year and matched their 2022 ranking.
The Huskies were one of only four programs in the country with more than 20 student-athletes named to WCGA Scholastic All-Americans with 21 of 23 (91.3%) Huskie gymnastics on the list. NIU ranked sixth among all NCAA gymnastics teams in percentage of student-athletes to be named Scholastic All-Americans, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
"I am super proud of the work the Huskies put in in the classroom," said NIU head coach
Sam Morreale. "Not only are they giving their all athletically, they are also really stepping up as students and true student- athletes. To be in the top 10 for the fifth consecutive year is an accomplishment that we are very proud of. Thanks to our amazing SAASS advisor Chris Isley for keeping the ladies on track. And thanks to the student-athletes for getting it done semester after semester."
