CLEVELAND, OHIO. – The Northern Illinois University women's soccer team had nine student-athletes earn Academic All-MAC Honors as announced by the Mid-American Conference on Thursday, Dec. 5.
The nine Huskies who claimed the recognition are
Abby Zipse (Batavia, Ill./Batavia),
Aubrey Robertson (Fishers, Ind./Fishers),
Jordyn Saddler (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper),
Isabel Struble (Mount Pleasant, Mich./ Mount Pleasant),
Reegan Kingpavong (Rockford, Ill./Saginaw Valley State),
Lea Gruennagel (Homburg, Germany/Saginaw Valley State),
Chantelle Parker (Milton, Ontario/Pittsburgh),
Sarah Roy (Sainte-Julie, Quebec/Champlain College Saint-Lambert) and
Mikayla Rivera (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North).
NIU's Academic All-MAC Honorees includes two graduate students and three seniors along with one junior and three sophomores.
Zipse played in all 19 games, starting all 19, and has a 3.96 GPA in Sociology-Criminology. The Batavia, Ill., native set the school record for most career games played in and started with 85 and scored the first three goals of her NIU career in the final stretch of the season.
Robertson started 18-of-19 games while earning a 3.425 GPA in Nutrition, Dietetics and Wellness. She scored two goals and recorded two assists in 2024.
Saddler played in all 19 games, making five starts, this past season. Saddler has earned a GPA of 3.98 in Family and Social Services and recorded an assist in a 2-2 draw on Oct. 13 against Akron.
Struble earned a 3.97 GPA in Psychology while playing in 18 games for the Huskies, starting 14. The Mount Pleasant, Mich., native scored three goals and recorded two assists this season.
Kingpavong played in 18 games, including one start, this past fall. She scored a goal in a win against Kent State and recorded two assists on the season. Kingpavong has a 3.30 GPA in Chemistry.
Gruennagel has a 3.67 GPA in Business Administration and played in 16 games this season, starting all 16 contests. Gruennagel scored two goals and recorded three assists during the 2024 campaign.
Parker played 13 games this past season, all coming as a substitiute. The Milton, Ontario native has a 3.29 GPA in Business Administration. She scored her lone goal of the season in a 4-1 season opening win against St. Thomas.
Roy has a GPA of 3.956 in Mechanical Engineering-Robotics and Controls. She appeared in 13 games for NIU in 2024.
Rivera saw action in 11 games for the Huskies this past season. She has earned a 3.71 GPA in Biomedical Engineering.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
