Huskies In Third Place After Round One at MAC Championships

GROVE CITY, OHIO—Three Huskies are inside the top-15 as the Northern Illinois University Huskies women's golf sits in third place after the first round of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship.
 
As a team, the Huskies recorded a score of 310, which is 22 over par and just 14 strokes from the lead held by Kent State.
 
"Today was a grind with the wind swirling on the course," said NIU head women's golf coach Kim Kester. "Luckily, we have two more days of competition. The ladies fought hard (today) and we are working to put ourselves in a better scoring position."
 
Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Can./ Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) and Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Can./ Hills International Golf Academy) are tied for ninth place after the first round of action, going four over par. Romancew ended her front nine with a pair of birdies as she carded 12 pars on the day. Naro opened her round with a pair of bogeys before rebounding with a pair of birdies to become even at the fifth hole. Naro carded only two bogeys on the back nine to finish four over on the day.
 
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/ iUniversity Prep) is in a tie for 14th position, going six over on the day. Kent had one birdie on the back nine before ending the round on six straight pars for the Huskies.
 
Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ontario, Can./ Holy Names High School) is sitting in a tie for 26th after going eight over par in the first round of the tournament. Ly recorded one birdie on the front nine and had seven pars through the back nine.
 
Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) rounded out the Huskies on the course, finishing in a tie for 45th. Lúðvíksdóttir started the day with three out of four pars before she would go 14 over par on the day.
 
The Huskies resume action at the 2024 MAC Championships at the Pinnacle Golf Club on April 22 and 23. The Huskies will tee off at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.
