Women's Basketball | April 17

DeKALB, IL – Six student-athletes from the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team were named to the Mid-American Conference's women's basketball Academic All-MAC Team on Thursday.
 
This is the ninth consecutive season the Huskies have had at least six Academic All-MAC selections.
 
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) was one of three Huskies to earn her fourth Academic All-MAC selection. Koker was named MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week on Feb. 19 after scoring 20 points in NIU's win at Western Michigan on Feb. 15. She also earned her second College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection this year. Koker was named to the All-MAC Third Team after leading the team with 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per game.
 
Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) and Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) also earned their fourth Academic All-MAC honors. McCrea was also named to the CSC Academic All-District Team this season. She was second on the team with 50 three-pointers and a .420 three-point percentage. Stonebraker led NIU in rebounding for the second straight season with 6.3 boards per game and was third on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game.
 
Laura Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the third consecutive season. She was also on the CSC Academic All-District team this year. Brooke Blumenfeld (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) earned her second Academic All-MAC selection as Shannon Blacher (Burr Ridge, Ill./Montini Catholic) was named Academic All-MAC for the first time.
 
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of games for that sport.
