WBB - Sorensen All-Freshman Team 3-10-26

Women's Basketball | March 10

DeKALB, IL – Freshman Emilie Sorensen (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) of the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team was named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team on Tuesday morning as the league announced its All-MAC teams and postseason award winners.

Sorensen is the eighth Huskie in program history to earn a place on the MAC All-Freshman Team. She is the first NIU freshman since Mikayla Voigt in the 2015-16 season to start every game in her rookie year. Sorensen led NIU with 54 three-pointers and a .380 three-point field goal percentage. She finished the season second on the team in minutes with 33.3 per game and was third in scoring at 9.8 points per game.

"I'm extremely excited and proud of Emilie for being recognized by the MAC coaches," said head coach Jacey Brooks. "She has worked incredibly hard since arriving on campus in June and that effort has shown on the court. Leading all freshmen in three-point field goals made is an impressive accomplishment. I'm looking forward to seeing her continue to expand her game during the offseason and remain a big part of what we are building here at NIU."

Sorensen scored in double-figures 13 times this season including in each of the last three games. On Jan. 7 she became the first NIU freshman since 2017 to have a 20-point game, leading NIU with 20 points in the Huskies' 64-58 win at Buffalo. Sorensen scored a season-high 22 points in NIU's win over Western Michigan on Jan. 21, going 6-for-8 from the field and 7-for-8 at the free throw line. She made a season-high six three-pointers on Feb. 7 against Texas State, scoring 21 points as the Huskies beat the Bobcats 71-69.

This marks 29 different NIU women's basketball players to earn a postseason All-MAC honor. The Huskies have also had three MAC Sixth Players of the Year and two MAC Freshmen of the Year honorees.
