Women's Basketball | April 2

DeKALB, IL – Seniors Marta Hermoso (Seville, Spain/McNeese) and Maria Serracanta (Sabadell, Spain/Mercer) of the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team were selected to the Mid-American Conference's Academic All-MAC Team on Thursday.
 
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have played in at least 50 percent of games for that sport.
 
Serracanta holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA in kinesiology. She earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators last week. The senior led the MAC this season with a 2.00 assist/turnover ratio which put her 40^th in the country. Serracanta was eighth in the league with 3.9 assists per game and had at least five assists in a game 10 times this season. On Dec. 7 Serracanta led NIU with a career-high 16 points at nationally-ranked Iowa State. She recorded her first career double-double on Feb. 28 with 12 points and a career-high 11 assists in the Huskies' win over Eastern Michigan.
 
Hermoso holds a 3.37 cumulative GPA in health sciences. She played in all 30 games this year with 17 starts. Hermoso averaged 4.1 points per game, shooting 40.0 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free throw line. She scored a career-high 13 points in consecutive games against UMass on Feb. 10 and Akron on Feb. 14.
 
NIU has had multiple Academic All-MAC honorees in every season since the 2014-15 campaign.
