MUNCIE, Ind. -- G'Nea Pitt (Spanish Town, Jamaica) earned an eighth-place finish in the javelin as the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team opened action at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday (May 14) at Ball State's Briner Sports Complex.
Pitt's best throw of the competition came on her second attempt, measuring 39.48 meters (129-06.00), helping her advance from the first three throws in the top nine. The Huskie sophomore was unable to better her second attempt in the final three throws of the day, but it was still enough to score points for NIU.
In the preliminary round of the 200 meters,
Esther Momalife (Lagos, Nigeria) ran 24.59 seconds, less than a tenth of a second off her collegiate best, to finish 15th.
The MAC Championships resume on Friday (May 15) with field events beginning at 9 a.m. CT. The first event on track is slated for 3:10 p.m. CT.
