MUNCIE, Ind. – Precious Umukoro (Villarreal, Spain) finished third in the triple jump while
Arianna Calloway (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) tied for sixth in the high jump as the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team finished competition at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon (May 16).
In the triple jump, Umukoro posted a leap of 12.85 meters (42-02.00) to claim third. Umukoro's jump, which came on her second attempt of the competition, is also the third-best mark in school history. Umukoro's third-place finish in the triple jump marked the second event in which she scored after recording an eighth-place finish in the long jump on Friday.
Calloway and
Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) both cleared 1.66 meters in the high jump. Calloway, who cleared the mark on her first attempt, tied for sixth while Raes, who cleared the height on her third attempt, finished in a tie for ninth due to tiebreakers.
Amelie Ojeda (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) ran the third-fastest time in NIU history in the 5,000 meters, recording a time of 16:46.91. Her time was the best by a Huskie in five seasons as she claimed a ninth-place finish.
Akron won the team championship with 135.5 points, 22 points ahead of second-place Kent State.
NIU will now await selections for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, May 27-30, in Fayetteville, Ark.
