Division I Academic Requirements
In order for a prospective student-athlete to be eligible for athletic aid, practice, and competition in their first year of residency they must meet the following academic qualifications:
- Minimum core course GPA of a 2.3
- 16 core courses:
- 4 credits of English
- 3 credits of Mathematics (Algebra I Level or Higher)
- 2 credit Natural or Physical Science
- 1Â credit of additional English, Mathematics, or Physical or Natural Science
- 2 credits of Social Science
- 4 credits Additional in any category above, or Foreign Language, Philosophy, or Non-doctrinal Religion
- 10 of the required 16 core courses must be completed before the start of their 7th semester
- 7 of the 10 required before the start of their 7th semester must include English, Mathematics, and Science
- The 10 core courses used to fulfill this requirement and the grades received in those courses shall be used to determine the student-athlete's eligibility for financial aid, practice, and competition their first academic year in residence, and shall not be replaced by courses or grades received in subsequently completed core courses including courses completed after the core-curriculum time limitation.
Final Qualifier
A final qualifier shall be eligible for financial aid, practice and competition during the first academic year of residence.Â
A qualifier is defined as one who is a high school graduate and who has attained the requried academic qualifications.
Non-Qualifer
A non-qualifier is a student who has not graduated from high school or who, at the time specified in the NCAA regulations, did not present the core-curriculum grade-point average required for a qualifier or an academic red-shirt.Â
A final non-qualifier is not eligible for practice, competition, or athletics financial aid in their first year of residence.
Academic Red-Shirt
An academic red-shirt may receive institutional athletically related financial aid but may not compete during the first academic year of residence.
