DEKALB, Ill. -- Northern Illinois University's Connie Ellett of the Huskie women's golf team garnered Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week honors, becoming the seventh Huskie in the 2015-16 academic year to be honored with the award by the league office.
Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) broke two school records at the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational Mar. 10-11, 2016. The senior posted a school record 68 (4-under) in the final round to vault 17 spots up the leaderboard. She passed Lori Wetzel, who set the previous record at 69 in 1984.
The Huskie senior finished the event in fourth with a one-over par 145 which broke the school record for a 36-hole event. NIU legend Nicole Jeray (1991) and Lisa Bailey (2006) held the previous mark of 147. Ellett, who boasts a 3.91 cumulative grade point average while pursing her degree in marketing, helped lift NIU, which began the final round in 12th, to third-place finish in the 13-team field.
Ellett and the Huskies return to action Mar. 28 when NIU travels to Williamsburg, Va. for the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
