Women's Golf | September 30
IOWA CITY, Iowa—Emile Chile (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) and
Mia Raines (Galena, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) led the Northern Illinois University Huskies women's golf team as they concluded action at the Diane Thomason Invitational this afternoon (Sept. 30).
The duo finished in the top-25 of the field as the team finished in eighth place. NIU carded 20 birdies in the tournament after finishing 11th last season.
"This was a mentally and physically tough course this week,"
Kim Kester, NIU Head Coach. "It's been nice for the slower start to the year as we can pinpoint where we need to work on things in practice. I was excited to see the improvements from the last tournament, and we are moving in the right direction."
Raines birdied the 12th hole in both the second and third rounds while
Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) birdied the sixth hole in those same rounds.
Raines carded three birdies with her best round coming in the third as she went three over par. Chile was one of only two Huskies to record a birdie in each round, as she tallied six total on the tournament. Chile birdied the seventh hole in the first and third rounds.
Alexa Ouellet (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) was one under par in her first nine holes in round one as she carded three birdies that round. Ouellet and Tallent finished in a tie for 31st.
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) carded back-to-back birdies in the first and second rounds as
Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands/OSG Willem Baleu) added the final two birdies for the Huskies in the third round.
The NIU Women's Golf team returns to action on Oct 19-20 as they compete at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas.
