NIU Women' Golf Team Concludes Play at Kingsmill

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northern Illinois University women’s golf team finished in 12th after carding a 954 in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate at the River Course Monday.

The Huskies shot a final round 325, 46 shots behind Mid-American Conference foe Toledo, which won the event with a 908. Toledo’s Sathika Ruenreong won the individual title after shooting a 217.

Lena Gautier (La Celle Saint Cloud, France/Creteil) led the way for NIU. The Huskie junior was able to hold onto 10th place after shooting a final round 78. She finished the tournament with a three-round total of 229 (78-73-78) and was the only Huskie to record sub-80 rounds throughout the event.

Freshman Kelly Anderson (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) moved up a spot on the leaderboard after scoring a final round 80. Anderson finished in 28th with a three-round score of 235. Brielle Ward (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) climbed 13 spots in the standings after shooting a final round 81. The Huskie freshman finished in 36th with a 239.

Sophomore Lexi Salberg (Glencoe, Ill./New Trier) improved her final position, moving up two spots after a final round 86. She finished the tournament in 87th with a 256. Senior Connie Ellett (Hampshire, Ill./Hampshire) finished in 84th with a 251 (83-82-86) and rounds out the Huskie competitors.

“Today was not a good day,” said NIU head coach Kim Kester. “We hit the ball decently, but had way too many putts. We have a couple days to prepare for the UMKC tournament and will be doing a lot of putting work.”

The Huskies return to the course Monday, April 4 when NIU travels to Kansas City, Mo. for the Gary Crossley Shootout.
