DeKALB, IL – Northern Illinois University women's basketball head coach
Lisa Carlsen announced on Monday that Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) and Emiy Meinert (Galesburg, Ill./Parkland College) will join the Huskies for the 2020-21 season.
"These two young ladies are exceptional additions for the Huskies," Carlsen said. "They both come from great families, are tremendous students and are ready and willing to get to work."
Stonebraker, a 6'3" forward from Versailles, Ohio, averaged 10.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in her senior season at Versailles High School. She earned Second Team All-Conference honors and was a Southwest District Honorable Mention. The Tigers won their second straight District Championship this past season. Versailles reached the Ohio Division 3 State Championship game in 2018 and finished the season with a 28-2 record in Stonebraker's sophomore season. Stonebraker was coached in high school by her mother Jacki, who played college basketball at Bowling Green.
"Brooke provides us size and length at the post position," said Carlsen about Stonebraker. "Her upside is tremendous and we can't wait to work with her on a day-to-day basis."
Meinert, a 6'0" forward from Galesburg, Ill. comes to NIU after playing two seasons at Parkland College. She averaged a double-double this past season with 16.1 points and 11 rebounds per game which were 10
th-most in the National Junior College Association of America. She led Parkland's region in rebounds per game, field goal percentage at 54.2 percent, and was second in points per game and blocks. Meinert had 23 double-doubles at Parkland with 18 this past season. She was a four-year letterwinner at Galesburg High School, earning First Team All-Conference honors her senior year. The Silver Streaks won three consecutive IHSA Regional titles from 2015 to 2017.
"Emily will be ready to make an immediate impact on our team," Carlsen said. "She's a dynamic rebounder, can run the floor and is a great fit for our system."
