DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University volleyball team had eight student-athletes selected to the 2021 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league announced on Monday.
"Through all of the adjustments, modifications and challenges our group encountered this past year, their commitment to academic excellence remained a top priority," said head coach
Ray Gooden. "I'm very happy for this group to be recognized for their efforts in the classroom."
Senior middle blocker
Kennedy Wallace (Kansas City, Kan./Piper) earned her third Academic All-MAC honor. Juniors
Angie Gromos (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago),
Kennedy Shelley (Burlington, Colo./Lewis-Palmer),
Grace Balensiefer (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) and
Jasmine Kemp (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) each were selected to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second time.
Junior
Kelsy Turskey (Prairie Grove, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and sophomore
Brianna Scuric (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) earned their first Academic All-MAC honors. Turskey is one of two student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC Team with a 4.0 grade point average.
This is the third time in the last five years NIU has had eight student-athletes selected to the Academic All-MAC Team.
To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed.
