DeKALB, Ill. –Northern Illinois University women's golf coach
Kim Kester announced the signing of Johanna Ludviksdottir, a native of Reykjavik, Iceland, who most recently became the first player from Iceland to reach the finals of the British Women's Amateur Championship.
Ludviksdottir, one of the top amateur golfers in her native country over the last five years, will join the Huskies for the 2021-22 season after making a surprise run to the final round of match play at The 118
th Women's Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock (Barassie) in Scotland this June. Ludviksdottir shot rounds of 81-76 in stroke play before defeating five opponents in match play to reach the 36-hole final.
"We are very excited to add Johanna to the Huskie Golf family," Kester said. "She is a very accomplished golfer, and we know she can help us continue to improve the program. She has had a very successful junior golf career, and garnered a lot of attention with her finish at the British Am."
Ludviksdottir is a member of the Icelandic National Women's Team for 2021 after three years (2018-20) on the Icelandic Girls National Team. In 2020, she tied for fourth at the Icelandic Women's Championship. A three-time Icelandic Stroke Play U-18 Champion (2017, 2019, 2020), she also won the Icelandic Match Play U-18 title in 2019.
She twice won the girls Order of Merit in Iceland, and in 2019 was named the junior player of the year at The Reykjavik Golf Club.
Ludviksdottir joins Renata Petersen (Village of Lakewood, Illinois) and Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas) in the 2021-22 NIU women's golf signing class. The Huskies are coming off a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships in 2021 under Kester, who was named the MAC Co-Coach of the Year.
