Kadeja Campbell Named MAC Track Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND -- Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann, Jamaica/Southern-New Orleans) of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday (Jan. 19). Campbell won both the 200 and 400 meters this past Saturday at the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open.

In the 200, Campbell led a Huskie sweep of the top-five spots with a time of 24.27 seconds. The time is the fastest in the MAC this season and 40th nationally in the event. Campbell finished just ahead of teammate Malia Watkins (24.67) who finished second.

The St. Ann, Jamaica, native completed her two-event sweep by winning the 400 meters at the Bob Eubanks Open. Campbell clocked in with a time of 56.27 seconds, the second-fastest in the MAC this season and the 43rd-fastest in the country. Campbell finished first ahead of second-place teammate Jahnetta Jones, who ran a time of 56.92 seconds.

The weekly honor marks the second time this season that Campbell has been named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week. She also claimed the award on Dec. 15 following her performance in the 200 meters at Iowa's Jimmy Grant Invitational.

Campbell and the Huskies return to action this Saturday, Jan. 22, when they travel to the University of Illinois for the Illini Invitational. Field events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with track action slated for 12 p.m.
