TOLEDO, Ohio – Northern Illinois University sophomore Jasmine Ly owns the individual lead after the first round of the 2022 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship at Stone Oak Country Club in Toledo, Ohio, helping lead the NIU Huskies into second place.
 
Ly shot a three-under par 69 at the 6,158-yard layout in a round that included four birdies. The score tied her lowest round of the year.  She leads Kent State's Emily Price by one stroke as only three players in the field shot under par on Friday.
 
"Jasmine's ball striking was good, and she made a lot of putts within five feet," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "It was a steady round for her and a good start to the tournament."
 
As a team, the Huskies shot 17-over par 305 and are nine strokes behind opening round leader Kent State. NIU is 10 strokes ahead of third place Toledo (315) with Akron (316) and Central Michigan (317) rounding out the top five.
 
NIU senior Sofia Gomez Enriquez is tied for sixth after shooting four-over par 76 that included a chip in she described as "epic" on the 15th hole for one of her three birdies on the day. Junior Ahra Ko is 13th after posting a six-over par 78.  Freshman Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (82) provided the other counting score for NIU on the day.
 
"Sofia played well, Jaz obviously played well and Ahra did pretty well," Kester said. "The good thing about today was we didn't shoot ourselves out of it.  We're still in it.  We told the team, as long as you go out and give it your all, that's all we can ask and from the looks of it that's what we did today."
