ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northern Illinois University sophomore
Jasmine Ly improved her score by two strokes and her place by six spots Tuesday following the second round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
Ly finished Tuesday's round with a score of four-over par 75 at the par 71, 6,265-yard course for a 36-hole total of 10-over 152. The Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Holy Names HS) native enters Wednesday's final round tied for 35th overall.
Teeing off on hole 10 for the second day, Ly made the turn at two-over with the lone misstep on the par four 15th hole where an errant tee shot resulted in a double bogey, the second time in as many rounds Ly posted a six at 15. She had a similar issue on the second hole and scored a double bogey there. After bogeying hole number seven, she came back to birdie the par 3 eighth before coming in with a par to ink her total of 75.
"Jasmine's putting was fantastic today," said NIU head coach
Kim Kester. "She was making clutch putts from everywhere, six and seven-footers to save par. She had two errant tee shots [on 15 and 2] and that's what got her today. It's no secret she's not the longest ball hitter out here, so when she gets in the rough, that's when she finds trouble. She definitely kept the ball more in play and her short game was strong."
Ly, the first NIU women's golfer to qualify for and compete in a NCAA Regional, closes out her sophomore season Wednesday in the final round of the Ann Arbor Regional.
"Tomorrow will be a chance to finish a great year on a high note," Kester said. "We want to see her go out, have fun and put herself in some good positions to have a good round," Kester said.
Ly will tee off at 7:55 a.m. (CT) from Hole 10. Follow live scores on Golfstat.com.
