ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Northern Illinois University sophomore
Jasmine Ly posted her best round of the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional with a two-over par 73 Wednesday to record a Top 30 finish in the first appearance in a NCAA Regional by a Huskie women's golfer.
"We're super proud of Jasmine; what a great season for her," said NIU head coach
Kim Kester. "Anytime you finish in the top half of the field in an event like this with the caliber of players that were here, it's a great accomplishment. The experience her was fantastic and it's always nice to end the tournament with your lowest round."
Ly's 54-hole total of 12-over par 225 put her in a tie for 29th place overall as she dropped two strokes each day, opening with a 77 on Monday, followed by a 75 Tuesday. Wednesday's round included three birdies and five bogeys. After playing her first nine holes, beginning on hole 10, in three over par with four bogeys and a birdie on the par 5 11th, she played the front nine in one under par birdies on holes two and eight.
"Jaz played well today," Kester said. "She kept the ball in play and put herself in scoring positions, made a lot of good putts and positioned herself extremely well to make those birdies. This was a great experience to build on, to get a taste of what it's like to play in the NCAAs and we've talked all week about working to get the team here. This was a great experience for her to build on and take back to the rest of the team."
Ly completes her sophomore year with a school record stroke average of 73.66 over 32 rounds as she becomes the first NIU women's golfer to finish the season with an average below 74. She shot 14 rounds of par or below in 2021-22, became the first MAC Champion in school history and led NIU to a second consecutive runner-up finish as a team in the MAC Championship.
