Women's Basketball | April 27
DeKALB, IL - Northern Illinois University Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics and Recreation Sean T. Frazier announced on Thursday the contract extension of Huskie Women's Basketball head coach
Lisa Carlsen.
Â
Carlsen's extension is through the 2024-25 season.
Â
"I am happy to extend Coach Carlsen through the 2024-25 season," said Frazier. "She is a veteran coach who brings an unwavering commitment and passion to developing NIU student-athletes both on and off the court and is a leader in our community."
Â
Under Carlsen's direction, the Huskies have reached the Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals in Cleveland five times in eight seasons. The Huskies reached the title game in 2017 and earned a berth into that season's Postseason WNIT. NIU made its second national postseason appearance under Carlsen this season as the Huskies were selected to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).
Â
The Huskies have had 12 All-MAC selections during Carlsen's tenure with Ally Lehman, Courtney Woods, and
A'Jah Davis earning First Team honors in their respective careers. NIU had a program-high three All-MAC honorees in the 2021-22 season with Davis placed on the First Team and
Chelby Koker and
Janae Poisson earning Honorable Mention accolades. Poisson was named MAC Sixth Player of the Year in 2021 and 2023, becoming just the second player to win the award twice in conference history.
Â
"NIU is home to me and my family," Carlsen said. "The community has embraced us since the first day we got here and I very much look forward to continuing to pursue excellence with the Huskies. Thanks to Sean and the administration for believing in me and what this program has represented on the court, in the classroom and in the community."
Â
NIU women's basketball has excelled in the classroom in recent years. The Huskies have been in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Top 25 Honor Roll in each of the last four years, placing in the top 10 in 2021 and 2022. In 2019, Mikayla Voigt became the third College Sports Communicators Academic All-American in program history.
