DEKALB, Ill. – Five members of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann, Jamaica),
Julia Finegan (Palatine, Ill.),
Joy Jackson (North Aurora, Ill.),
Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J.) and
Emma Vorpagel (Hartland, Wis.) received the recognition.
Campbell, a business administration major with a 3.734 grade point average, was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship. Campbell won both the 200 and 400 meters at the MAC Indoor Championship and was part of NIU's winning 4x400-meter relay team.
Rowe was also part of NIU's 4x400-meter relay championship team at the MAC Indoor Championship. A biological sciences major with a 3.714 grade point average, Rowe also scored points for the Huskies at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Championship with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
Finegan is a software development major with a 4.0 grade point average and ran a season-best time in the 800-meter run at the 2023 MAC Outdoor Championship, finishing 16th. The Palatine, Ill., native also finished third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,500 meters at the Huskie Classic.
A criminology major with a 4.0 grade point average, Jackson recorded a top-10 finish at the Tom Hoffman Invitational during the cross country season, running a time of 24:18.9. Jackson also finished 13th at the First State Bank Huskie Challenge during the cross country campaign.
Vorpagel has a 3.862 grade point average, majoring in finance. The Hartland, Wis., native ran a season-best time of 2:20.81 in the 800-meter run at Baylor's Michael Johnson Invitational and earned a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters at the Huskie Classic.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average and have participated in 50 percent of the competitions during one of the three track and field/cross country seasons during the school year (cross country, indoor track or outdoor track). Academic All-District honorees are then eligible to be voted onto an Academic All-America Team. Freshmen and first-year students (transfers) are not eligible.
