Huskies Finish Fourth at BGSU Invitational

Three Huskies Finish Inside Top-15

LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ— Three members of the Northern Illinois University women's golf squad placed in the top-15 as the Huskies concluded action at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate this afternoon.
 
The Huskies competed at the Wigman Golf Course and Club, a par-71 course, for a fourth-place finish which was their best in the 2023-24 season.
 
Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ontario, Can./ Holy Names High School) finished in a tie for sixth place with a total score of 233 (+10). Ly shot par in the first round (71) before going seven over (78) in the second round. Ly was three over on the day (74) to lead the Huskies. 
 
Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Can./ Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) was the only competitor to shoot even on the day (71) as she finished in a tie for tenth place with a score of 225 (+12).  Romancew opened her first round going five over before matching Ly in the second round with a 78. Romancew and Ly were the only two Huskies to shoot par in at least one of the rounds. 
 
Rounding out the Huskies in the top-15, Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Can./Hills International Golf Academy) shot a 228 (+15). Naro opened her round with a 74 followed by a 75 on the first day. Naro shot +8 on the day to finish with a score of 79 in the third round. 
 
"We got ourselves into a hole on Tuesday afternoon and need to work on making adjustments on the greens better during the round," said NIU head coach Kim Kester. "I'm proud of the fight we had and the diligence to keep working on the little things. Overall, it was good to get on the course and back into competition mode after the mid-season break."
 
Romancew, Naro, Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands), and Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) had their highest finishes of the season.
 
Nijenhuis finished with a total round score of 241 (+28) while Lúðvíksdóttir had a round score of 243 (+30). Nijenhuis opened her first round at 79 while Lúðvíksdóttir opened with an 82. The pair of Huskies switched round scores in the second round to finish +16 on the day. Nijenhuis complied a third round score of 80 (+9) while Lúðvíksdóttir had a third round score of 82 (+11). 
 
Opening the tournament, the Huskies combined for an opening round score of 300. Scoring at 310 in the second round, the Huskies regrouped for the third best round score of the day at 304. 
 
The Huskies return to action on March 16-17 at the NAU Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona.
