Romancew Wins NAU Red Rocks; Huskies With Four in Top-20

Huskies Tie for Fourth in Team Standings

SEDONA, AZ—Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Can./ Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) won the NAU Red Rocks Invitational as four members of the Northern Illinois University women's golf program finished inside the top-20.
 
The Huskies matched their season-best finish, tying for fourth place at the Oakcreek Country Club, a par-72 course.  
 
Romancew was under par in the first (71) and third (70) rounds while matching par in the second (72) round for the Huskies. Romancew putted in 11 birdies over the three rounds, with four birdies in the second and third rounds. Romancew finished with a score of 213 to go three under for the weekend and the first-place finish.
 
"We had a rough start the first four holes, but they battled back and had a lot of good golf. They put things together when it mattered. To have Emily finish how she did was great to see her get rewarded for all her hard work," said NIU head women's golf coach Kim Kester. "It was nice that we good have everyone to play this event and Caroline has been working hard and did extremely well on this course. Everything is moving in the right direction, and we are fine tuning the little things as we continue to prepare for MAC Championships."
 
Jasmine Ly (Windsor, Ontario, Can./ Holy Names High School) went five over in the opening round, shooting a 77. Ly shot two under par in the second round before shooting three under par in the final round to finish even with par. Ly joins the Red Rocks Invitational records for individual low round with a 69 in the third round.
 
Competing as an individual at the tournament, Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) finished in a tie for eighth place. Kent, who had her best finish of the season, was one over par at 217. In the first two rounds, Kent matched her score of 74 before shooting three under par in the final round.
 
Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Can./Hills International Golf Academy) finished in a tie for 16th. Naro shot at par in the first round before going one under in the second round of play. A pair of opening bogeys in the third round set her on course to go four over at 76.
 
Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands) and Karen Liu (Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Heping) tied for 94th. Nijenhuis and Liu finished with a score of 238 (+22). Nijenhuis opened with a score of 83 while Liu started seven over par (79). Nijenhuis recorded a pair of birdies in the second round for a score of 76 while Liu matched her first-round score of 79. Ending her day with a birdie, Nijenhuis recorded a 79 in the final round of the tournament. Liu went eight over in her final round for an 80.

Jóhanna Lúðvíksdóttir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Commercial College of Iceland) rounded out the Huskie golfers this weekend, recording a 241. Lúðvíksdóttir started her round going ten over before improving on her score each round to finish +25. 
 
The Huskies will compete at the Pinetree Intercollegiate tournament on March 25-26 in Kennesaw, Georgia.
