DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team takes its farthest road trip of the season to compete in Corvallis, Ore. against Oregon State and Seattle Pacific on Saturday. The meet begins at 2 p.m.
The Huskies are looking to have an all around great meet this weekend with expectations of six great performances on all of the events to improve on their score from last week at Ball State.
"For us coming out of the first two weeks, the great thing is that we still feel like we're in a really good spot," said NIU head coach
Sam Morreale. "Expectations for week three are to, again, keep building and chasing. Our goal is to go 24 for 24, which would mean everybody hitting on all four events."
NIU had an uncharacteristic run on the balance beam last week, but have been in the gym working hard to put together a complete meet like they were able to accomplish the first week of competition.
"For this week we've been a little more conscious of landings and not giving away those little deductions," said Morreale. "As far as where we're at and how we're doing, we feel really good coming into this week."
Coach Morreale will stick to a similar lineup once again, confident that the team will pull together a competition that meets the team's expectations of themselves.
Juniors
Katherine Prentice (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) and
Ashley Potts (Oakwood Hills, Ill./Prairie Ridge) will be all-around competitors, while senior
Jamyra Carter (Ypsilanti, Mich./Huron) will specialize on the uneven parallel bars and senior
Andie Van Voorhis (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard) will specialize on vault and the balance beam.
