CHARLESTON, Ill. – In the final meet before the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team won five events at the EIU Friday Night Special. The Huskies claimed top honors in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 800-meter run, 60-meter hurdles and the long jump. 

Scout Regular (St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy) ran the third-fastest time in the MAC this season to win the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.56 seconds. That time is just one one-hundredth of a second behind the fastest run in the conference this season. 

Malia Watkins (Upper Marlboro, Md./Missouri State) led a sweep of the top-three spots in the 60-meter dash for the Huskies, running a winning time of 7.74 seconds in the final. Skylynn Blue (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was second for NIU with a time of 7.79 seconds while Katrina Small (Atlanta, Ga./Arkansas-Pine Bluff) posted a season-best time of 7.94 seconds to claim third. 

NIU had a one-two finish in the long jump where Jazmyn Smith (Pinecrest, Fla./Gulliver Prep) bettered the field by more than a foot with a top mark of 5.86 meters (19-02.75). Taylor Ramsey (St. Louis, Mo./Hazelwood Central) took second with her best jump of the season, measuring 5.52 meters (18-01.5). 

In the 200 meters, Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann, Jamaica/Southern-New Orleans) posted a winning time of 24.79 seconds. Kennedy Crawford (Douglasville, Ga./Alexander) was fourth in the 200, running a season-best time of 26.04 seconds. 

The Huskies claimed three of the top-five spots in the 800 meters, with Brooke Lytle (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) pacing the field in a season-best time of 2:19.06 to take first place. Emma Vorpagel (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) was third with a season-best time of 2:21.34 while Kayla La Fontain (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) was fifth in 2:23.24. 

Up next for the Huskies will be the MAC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26, at the Kent State University Field House in Kent, Ohio.
