NORMAL, Ill. – Skylynn Blue (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the 200 meters and Kadeja Campbell (St. Ann/Jamaica) took the top spot in the 400 as the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team competed for the first time in 2023 on Saturday at Illinois State's Coughlan/Malloy Cup. 

In the 200, NIU took four of the top-five spots, and six of the top-eight, with Blue leading the way with a time of 25.13 seconds. Illinois State's Nnenna Okpara was second in 25.16, Malia Watkins (Upper Marlboro, Md.) was third, with the seventh-fastest time in the MAC this season, in 25.25 Suerethia Henderson (Lima, Ohio) recorded the 10th-best time in the conference, finishing fourth in 25.58 seconds. Jahnetta Jones (Romeoville, Ill.) was fifth with a time of 25.89 seconds. 

Campbell led a NIU one-two in the 400, finishing with a time of 58.69 seconds, seventh-fastest in the conference this season. Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J.) was second in 59.68, the 11th-best mark in the MAC this year. 

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Huskie quartet of Rowe, Campbell, Talayssia Sanders (Waco, Texas) and Kennedy Crawford (Douglasville, Ga.) ran a time of 3:56.80, the second-best mark in the MAC this season. The NIU relay took second in the meet, just behind Illinois State who ran 3:56.21. 

Scout Regular (St. Louis, Mo.) claimed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67 seconds, just behind Indiana State's Zoe Sullivan who won the event in 8.51. 

Crawford claimed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.87 while, in the field, Dymier Jeffery (Richmond, Va.) was third in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters. 

NIU will return to action next Friday, Jan. 20, when the Huskies compete in DePaul's Blue Demon Alumni Classic at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center at Gately Park in Chicago.
