ALLENDALE, Mich. – Kamiya Dendy (Anderson, S.C./Pendleton) of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team won the invitational high jump at the GVSU Big Meet and
Samira Rosenfeld (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) won the high jump at the Chicagoland Indoor Championship on Friday (Feb. 14) to highlight action for the Huskies.
"Another productive weekend at both Grand Valley State and North Central," said NIU Director of Track and Field
Connie Teaberry. "We walk away with PRs from several athletes, MAC top 20 marks, and confident. As we inch closer to our last competition we will continue to fine tune for the Indoor MAC Championships. These ladies are young but talented and I continue to sit on the end of my seat excited for what they accomplish next."
Dendy won the high jump by clearing 1.77 meters (5-09.75), the top mark in the Mid-American Conference this season, and won the tiebreak over Eastern Michigan's Micah Martin, who also cleared 1.77m, but had more misses in the competition.
Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) claimed fourth, clearing 1.69 meters (5-06.50).
In the 400 meters,
Sadiya Shamsid-Deen (McDonough, Ga./Sprayberry) finished fifth with a time of 55.61 seconds, the ninth-fastest time in the MAC this season.
Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) ran 56.74 to finish 14th, posting the 15th-best time in the league this season.
Precious Umukoro (Villarreal, Spain) was third in the invitational section of the triple jump with a mark of 12.03 meters (39-05.75), recorded on her second jump of the competition. Umukoro ranks sixth in the MAC in the long jump. In the other section of the triple jump,
Aniya Barton (Lansing, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) claimed eighth with a leap of 11.08 meters (36-04.25), a top-20 mark in the MAC.
In the long jump,
Xiomora Malone (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) earned a fourth-place finish with a leap of 5.39 meters (17-08.25), which ranks just outside the top-25 in the conference.
NIU also sent a group of competitors to the Chicagoland Indoor Championship at North Central College, where Rosenfeld took top honors in the high jump by clearing 1.68 meters (5-06.00), which ranks 17th in the MAC this year.
Ella Bertram claimed fifth in the shot put at the Chicagoland Indoor Championship with a mark of 11.46 meters (37-07.25).
Next Saturday (Feb. 22), the Huskies will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the John Gartland Invitational, the final meet prior to the conference championship.
