COLUMBIA, Mo. – Senior
Jasmine Ly tied the school record for lowest round and carded the best score of her Northern Illinois University career Tuesday with a five-under par 67 at the Johnie Imes Invitational as the Huskies closed out a stretch of three tournaments in three weeks on Wednesday.
Ly's 67 tied former Huskie Isabella Samudio, who shot a 67 on April 14, 2018 at the Lady Boilermaker Invitational, for the lowest round in NIU women's golf history. Her scorecard included five birdies and an eagle on the par four 11th, her second hole of the day, with birdies on her final two holes. The senior from Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Holy Names HS) opened the tournament with an even-par 72 and finished tied for 14th at two-over par 218.
Ly's score helped the Huskies post a season low team score of one-under par 287 in Tuesday's second round as
Emily Romancew (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada/Ecole Secondaire Des Sources) shot even par 72,
Sydney Naro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Hills International) came in at one-over 73 and freshman
Eva Nijenhuis (Heiloo, Netherlands/OSG Willem Blaeu) recorded a three-over 75.
Romancew had the lowest round for NIU in Wednesday's final round with a 75 while
Caroline Kent (Frisco, Texas/iUniversity Prep) contributed a 78 as the Huskies placed 11th in the team race.
"Great round by Jaz [Ly] on Tuesday leading us to one of our best team scores of the year, but we were only able to put together one good round out of three overall," said NIU head coach
Kim Kester. "We have two weeks off to regroup and hopefully end the fall on a high note."
NIU plays its final event of the fall on October 14-16 at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
